20 Jesus looked at His disciples and said: “God will bless you people who are poor. His kingdom belongs to you! 21 God will bless you people who are hungry now. You will be filled! God will bless you people who are crying now. You will laugh! 22 God will bless you when others hate you and won’t have anything to do with you or when they insult you and say cruel things about you, all because of the Son of Man. 23 Be happy and jump for joy! You will have a great reward in heaven. Long ago the ancestors of these people did the same things to the prophets.” - Luke 6:20-23 CEV

We live in a culture that tells us we need more to be happy. We are told that joy comes from a bigger bank account, a nicer car, or a house filled with perfect things. It can feel like a non-stop race to gather more possessions. But have you ever noticed that the excitement of buying something new wears off pretty fast?

In this passage, Jesus sits down with His followers and completely changes how we look at happiness. He shares a list of blessings often called the Beatitudes. His words might surprise you at first glance. He looks at people who have very little and says, "God will bless you people who are poor."

Jesus is not saying that poverty itself is a good thing. Instead, He is pointing out a beautiful spiritual truth. When we have fewer worldly things to rely on, we quickly realize how much we need God. True, lasting joy is found when we stop trying to handle everything on our own and recognize our complete dependence on Him. When your hands are empty of worldly pride, they are finally open to receive the spiritual riches of His Kingdom.

If you are feeling empty, overwhelmed, or tired of trying to keep up with the world today, be encouraged. Jesus looks at you with deep love and promises that you will be filled. God sees your struggles, and He cares about your needs. True wealth is not found in what you own. It is found in knowing that your Heavenly Father walks with you every single day. Let the Holy Spirit fill your heart with a peace that the world can never buy.

A Prayer for the Week: Heavenly Father, thank You for loving me just as I am. Forgive me for the times I have looked for joy in things that do not last. Holy Spirit, help me to rely completely on Your strength instead of my own. Lord, I need Your help with _______________ today. Fill my heart with Your true peace, and help me find my joy in You.
