When tragedy strikes, we quickly learn who is willing to show up and stand by our side. Recently, as devastating wildfires swept through our city and destroyed over 700 homes and businesses, we saw something incredible happen. Strangers, neighbors, believers, and non-believers all came together to support one another, proving that true family is defined by love and action.

In the Bible, while Jesus was teaching a crowd, someone told Him that His mother and brothers were waiting outside to talk to Him. Jesus asked a surprising question: "Who is my mother, and who are my brothers?" He then pointed to His followers and declared that anyone who does the will of His Father in heaven is His brother, sister, and mother.

Jesus wasn't pushing His earthly family away or ignoring them. Instead, He was opening the door to something much bigger. He taught that when we choose to obey God and care for others, we are joined together by a spiritual bond that is even deeper than our biological ties.

We have witnessed a powerful picture of this in our city over the past few weeks. By God's grace, despite the massive loss of property, not a single life was lost. In the middle of heartbreak, our entire community stepped up. People from every background opened their doors, shared their food, and helped clear away the ashes. When we set aside our differences to serve and love those in need, we are doing exactly what God asks of us. We become a true family, bound together by love and shared purpose.

Call to Action:

This week, find one practical way to serve someone who is recovering from loss or facing a hard time. Whether it's donating supplies, offering a hand with cleanup, or bringing a meal to a neighbor, take a step to show someone that they belong to a family that cares.
