I'm not exactly a morning person, but there's something truly special about watching the sun come up. Whether I'm camping in the woods, sipping fresh coffee by the window, or finishing a long night of work, it's amazing to see the sunlight slowly push away the darkness. Those first rays of light streak across the sky, painting it with incredible colors. It's like a brand new start to the day!
Jesus talked a lot about how we should live. He made it super clear that He wants His followers to share His love with everyone around them. He used light as an example of how we should spread His love. In the Bible, Matthew 5:14 says, "You are the light of the world."
Think about a tiny lightbulb. When it gets power, it can't help but glow and push away the darkness. It just does what light does! Light's job is to break through the dark.
Jesus continued by saying, "let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven." Just like the sun can't be stopped from rising and chasing away the night, true followers of Jesus should naturally show God's work in their lives to others. We are the light of the world, so we have to let that light shine and get rid of the darkness.
Maybe you've felt like saying, "But Jesus, I'm just not feeling it today. I don't have the energy." Jesus knew that sometimes His followers might not want to shine as brightly, or might even try to hide their light. But He said, "Let your light shine!" He didn't, and doesn't now, give us a choice to keep the world in the dark.
Jesus made it obvious that He wants us to spread His goodness to every corner of this dark world. It's not enough to just take our lights out of hiding. He wants us to put them on a lampstand where everyone can see them! God wants the light of His love to be held high so it can fill every dark spot. You are light. So, let your light shine, shine bright today for everyone to see!
PRAYER: Heavenly Father, thank you for the incredible power of your light that breaks through even the deepest darkness. I want to be a vessel for that light, making a real difference in the world around me. Help me to shine your light most brightly... (at location or when I...)
REFLECTION: Think about a time when someone else's "light" helped you. What did they do or say that made a difference? On what “lampstand” (school, work, family, friends, etc) can you place your “light” to make a difference in someone's life?
